Coffee
Coffee contains tannins — polyphenols that bind to textile fibers and oxidize as they dry. A fresh coffee stain is simple; a dried one is chemically bonded to the fabric.
Step by step
- 1Pour cold water on the BACK of the stain — pushes the stain forward instead of deeper in
- 2Apply detergent or liquid soap directly to the stain
- 3Let sit for 3–5 minutes
- 4Rub gently and rinse
- 5Soak in cold water 30 minutes
- 6Machine wash
Tips
Water from behind is a classic pro trick: you flush the stain out of the fabric instead of pushing it deeper. Tannins oxidize quickly on contact with air — the longer you wait, the stronger the chemical bond to the fibers.
