Berries
Berries contain anthocyanins — the same pigment group as red wine, but with even more varied chemical composition depending on the berry type. Blueberries are hardest, lingonberries easier.
Step by step
- 1Rinse immediately in cold water
- 2Rub in solid soap and let sit for 15 minutes
- 3Make a paste of baking soda + a little cold water for stubborn stains
- 4Place in sunlight after washing — UV radiation breaks down pigment residue
- 5Machine wash
Tips
Anthocyanins are pH-sensitive: in acidic environments they're red, in alkaline blue-purple. Baking soda is alkaline and changes the pigment's chemical structure, making it easier to dissolve. Sunlight helps break down whatever remains.

Grease / Cooking Oil
Fat and oil are hydrophobic — they repel water and bind to textile fibers. The 'like dissolves like' principle is key: fat dissolves fat, and a fatty acid-based soap emulsifies the grease away.
